Brazilian Scientists: Did You Know?

Researchers at UFRJ have been developing, for more than 25 years, an experimental treatment that stimulates the regeneration of injured spinal cord tissue. The compound, based on polylaminin, has been tested in authorized clinical protocols, and the initial results, according to researchers, indicate functional improvement in patients who received the substance. The approach works by reducing the formation of fibrosis and stimulating the growth of neural connections. The treatment is not yet approved for widespread use and remains under scientific evaluation, but it opens a new frontier in the field of regenerative medicine in the country.
